Effective Blog Title Ideas for a Catholic Blog: Finding Inspiration from Catholic Articles, Books, Poems and the Classics (2 of 7)

Introduction

We continue searching for more sources of inspiration to discover effective blog title ideas for a Catholic blog. This article is the second of a series of seven articles on Blog Title Ideas. The focus of this second article is to search for ideas from Catholic articles, books, poems and classic spiritual writings.

Article titles from Catholic periodicals

If you subscribe to many of the available Catholic periodicals that are published regularly, you may just find something that can inspire you to formulate that special blog title you always wanted to create. "Being, Giving" by Rica Bolipata-Santos is just a two-word title but speaks much to us on an essential aspect of our being Christian. Just two simple words combined can already be effective in communicating a Christian message in a Catholic blog.

Another idea is "Prayer and Life" - the name of a section in the Catholic periodical Review for Religious. This also is basically a two-word title that combines two important elements of the Christian faith. A simple title, but richly laden with meaning.

The two examples presented above are Christian themes of a general nature and thus can provide a wide range of subtopics, categories, and tags for a Catholic blog. More specific titles from which we can pattern our own Catholic blog title after are: "Reclaiming Silence for Holiness" by Daniel J. Heisey, and "Therese and the Mercy of God" by Carolyn Humphreys. The words in the titles of these articles are simple, familiar words, but they refer to a specific theme that can help us formulate a blog title idea that is also specific and with a direct focus. We can substitute one word from these original titles to come up with something of our own.

Inspiration from Catholic books

Another source of inspiration for a blog title is from the many Catholic books published and recorded in the Library of Congress. One form of book title is the combination of three related subjects. An example is "Poets, Prophets, & Pragmatists" by Evelyn Woodward. The three words in the title all begin with the same letter. This book inspired me to create a blog (not online anymore) with the title "Books, Blogs & BTWs" - a blog on Catholic books and blogs.

The three-word title is also used even if the first letter of the words are different. Many book authors use this title pattern more often. An example is "Celibacy, Prayer, and Friendship" by Christopher Kiesling.

From the two examples given above, we can formulate our own three-word blog title idea that combines topics we are familiar and knowledgeable about in terms of education and experience.

Phrases from poems as effective blog title ideas

If you check the breviary - the Book of Christian Prayer - there is a section in the prayer book on Night Prayer. In this section of the breviary, some poems are presented and used as alternatives to the traditional hymns. As you survey these poems, some of its phrases can be used as blog titles. They can be effective blog titles since they evoke deep and intense movements in the heart. Examples of these phrases in the poems are "God Alone Suffices" by St. Teresa of Avila, "Abide With Me" by H.F. Lyte, and "Lead, Kindly Light" by J.H. Newman.

Ideas from the classics of Catholic spirituality

The titles of some of our Catholic classic writings follows also a certain pattern - a pattern that we can use as a model for coming up with our own Catholic blog title. This title pattern has the elements of a one-word subject followed by a prepositional phrase beginning with "of". Three examples of these are: "The Ascent of Mount Carmel" by St. John of the Cross, "The Story of a Soul" by St. Therese of Lisieux, and "The Cloud of Unknowing" by a 13th-14th century mystic and writer. Titles of this kind evoke mystical imagery and symbols, which one can use for a blog that produces deep reflections and meditations.

Summary

Given above are more sources from which we can be inspired with to formulate our own Catholic blog title. There is certainly a lot more sources to be researched from, aside from the samples given above. But you can narrow your search by choosing your own favorite Catholic periodicals, books, poems and the classics you know by heart. As we formulate our own title, we can compose in a manner and style that is in line or similar to the spirit and thought of the authors of these Catholic sources.
