Catholic Blog Title Ideas from Catholic Music and Hymns: Effective Blog Title Ideas Series (3 of 7)

Introduction

This is the third of a series of seven articles written to help generate ideas in starting a Catholic blog. This article will specifically survey popular and traditional hymns as sources of ideas to title a Catholic blog. Of the many sources of inspiration that we can derive ideas from, phrases from Catholic hymn and songs can generate a bright idea for you to create a blog that can produce positive appeal and project popular images to your readers.

From the music of the St. Louis Jesuits

After Vatican II, the vernacular was applied not only to the Mass, but also to the liturgical songs that are used in the celebration of the Eucharist. And one of those who took the opportunity to compose songs in the vernacular were the St. Louis Jesuits. If you are familiar with the songs they composed, then probably you find inspiration not only from the titles of their songs, but also in the very phrases of the words which compose their popular songs. (You also need to inform the visitors of your Catholic blog that your writing is a part of Creative Commons - meant not for commercial use but for universal sharing online).

Going back to the St. Louis Jesuits, some examples of their three-word song titles in which you can derive your own three-word blog title are: "You Are Near", "City of God", "Take, Lord, Receive", and "Be Not Afraid". These three-word song titles were based also from scripture references and other Catholic literary sources. "City of God" is the title of one of St. Augustine's books. And "Take, Lord, Receive" is based from a prayer composed by St. Ignatius of Loyola.

You need not use these three-word song titles in themselves, but you can also generate your own three-word Catholic blog title as you listen to their music. Good music and good lyrics tend to reproduce good ideas and insights in your own imagination, which you can also take advantage of in writing an effective Catholic blog.

Traditional music as sources of inspiration

Another source of inspiration to help you find an effective Catholic blog title is traditional Catholic music you are familiar with since your youth. Now the blog titles that follow the pattern of traditional songs can generate a deeper meaning that can guide you well as you develop your Catholic blog.

Examples of these traditional songs are "Take My Hands", "Fill the World with Love", and "One Little Candle". "Take My Hands" can be a title for a Catholic blog that reflects on marriage and family life. "Fill the World with Love" can be a title for a Catholic blog on marriage or parish ministry. Lastly, "One Little Candle" evokes strong but gentle imagery and symbolism, and it can be used as a blog title for any Catholic theme related to the Christian virtue of hope.

Traditional hymns found in the breviary

If you want to create a Catholic blog with a title that evokes formality in spirit and solemnity in form, the traditional hymns that are printed in the breviary can give you a wealth of inspiration and ideas to work from.

A sample of such hymn titles are: "Breathe on Me, Breath of God" by Edwin Hatch, "Keep in Mind" by Lucien Deiss, "Loving Shepherd of Thy Sheep" by Jane E. Leeson, and "Morning Has Broken" by Eleanor Farjeon. Of these four traditional hymns, the one that has great and popular appeal is "Morning Has Broken", because of singer Cat Stevens who sang this traditional melody and made it a hit among the young in the 60s.

These four traditional hymn titles are just a sample. The breviary has printed 144 of these hymns. Imagine the great potential of being inspired not only from the hymn titles themselves, but also from specific phrases in the hymns. And you need not copy the words or phrases in themselves but can generate your own by following what inspired you in the hymn.

Check your own music collection

Aside from the sample suggestions given above, you can go back to your own collection of religious music, and play your favorite inspirational songs. As you listen more carefully, there might be a line in the song, or a movement in the melody, that can inspire your imagination strongly and fill you with an idea for a blog title. With the aim of discovering a blog title as the goal for playing these songs again, you just might discover something which can interest you, and which you would like to blog about.

Summary

This third of a series of seven articles examines popular and traditional hymns and songs as sources of inspiration for effective blog title ideas. It mentions the songs of the St. Louis Jesuits, traditional songs and hymns familiar since childhood, and the 144 hymns that are printed in the breviary. Furthermore, you can also search among your own collection of religious music. What better inspiration could be greater to title your Catholic blog than the very music you are familiar with.
