Effective Blog Title Ideas for a Catholic Blog: Finding Inspiration
from Scriptures and the Documents of the Church (5 of 7)
Introduction
In the past four articles of this series, we examined four sources of inspiration
and ideas to title a Catholic blog: from Catholic prayers, Catholic literature,
Catholic music, and Catholic key words. In this fifth article, we will examine
the Scriptures and the documents of the Church, as sources also of inspiration,
for formulating an effective blog title idea. We shall focus especially on the
New Testament, the Psalms, and the other Wisdom books for Scripture, and then
the documents of the Church in general, and the writings of John Paul II and
Benedict XVI in particular.
Context as our ground of meaning
When we examine the various phrases from the Scriptures and the documents of
the Church that can inspire and positively impress us, let us not forget the
context in which their meaning is rooted in. From the context in which we
have abstracted the phrases to form the title of our Catholic blog, we will
be guided well and given a solid direction to our writing. Whatever other
ideas we are inspired with in relation to the title we have chosen, let us
also integrate them well, and weave them into the main theme and context
of the sources, from which we abstracted our blog title idea.
Suggestions from Scripture (New Testament)
If you are fond of reading the Bible, then you will often encounter certain
phrases that positively impress and inspire you. I have found five phrases and
would like to suggest them also with you. These five phrases have created a
great impact in my reading and praying of the Scriptures. They are as
follows:
- "Do this in memory of me" (1 Corinthians 11:24)
- "Blessed are the peacemakers" (Matthew 5:9)
- "God is with us" (Matthew 1:23)
- "Ask the Lord of the harvest" (Matthew 9:38)
- "Treasure hidden in a field" (Matthew 13:44)
These five phrases can give you ideas on how to title your Catholic
blog. "Do this in memory of me" can be a title for a blog on the
Eucharist. "Blessed are the peacemakers" can be a title for a blog
on peace and non-violent action. "God is with us" can be a title for
a blog on the person of Jesus Christ. "Ask the Lord of the harvest"
can be a title for a blog on encouraging vocations in the Church.
And "Treasure hidden in a field" can be a title for a blog on
Christian life and holiness.
Suggestions from Scripture (Old Testament)
The Old Testament is also a rich source of inspiration and imagery
to discover ideas for a Catholic blog title. The Old Testament books
that we can specially mention are: the book of Psalms, Job, Proverbs,
Ecclesiastes, Sirach or Ecclesiasticus, and the Wisdom of Solomon.
These books are filled with many wise sayings which can act as a
title of your blog and direct your writing towards the search of
God's wisdom.
The book of Psalms is to be specially mentioned because of its
highly lyrical words and its tone of prayer and solemnity. Below
are a few suggestions which can help you write an effective Catholic
blog title. These are:
- "Give thanks to the Lord" (Psalm 105:1)
- "Praise the Lord, my soul" (Psalm 103:1)
- "God is our shelter and strength" (Psalm 46:1)
- "The Lord is my Shepherd" (Psalm 23:1)
The third suggestion given above could be a title for a family blog,
where members of the family can contribute a post to the development
of the theme of the blog's title. The fourth suggestion is very
popular, and its imagery is strong especially in the context of
crisis, trial, tribulation, or conflict.
Documents of the Church as sources of inspiration
When reading the documents of the Church, we cannot but be inspired
by the way some words are harmonically presented to refer to a
Christian doctrine, teaching, or action. The documents of the Church
are plentiful, but we can narrow our search, and focus on the documents
of Vatican II, and the writings of John Paul II and Benedict XVI.
Below are some suggestions for titles, which can fire up your imagination,
and enkindle in your heart the desire to write inspiringly for the benefit
of your readers:
- A contemplative eye upon the world (36th World Communications
Day Message)
- The incarnate love of God (Deus Caritas Est)
- The seed of eternal life (Sacramentum Caritatis)
- Feed the man dying from hunger (Gaudium et Spes)
- An inseparable sacrament of unity (Ut Unum Sint)
- Media as 'gifts of God' (Aetatis Novae)
These six suggestions can basically form the title (with editing
and revisions also according to your preference) to speak respectively
of the following: on the Church and the Internet; on the person of
Jesus Christ; on the Eucharist, the sacrament to the sick, and ministry
to the elderly; on the works of Christian charity; on the ecumenical
commitment of the Church; and of the responsible use of the social
communications media.
The encyclicals of John Paul II
The other encyclicals of John Paul II are also great sources of
inspiration and ideas. John Paul II has written fourteen encyclicals
in his lifetime. The twelve listed below can also give you some ideas
from which to base an effective Catholic blog title idea. These are
as follows:
- Redeemer of Humankind
- The Mercy of God
- On Human Work
- The Apostles of the Slavs
- Lord and Giver of Life
- The Mother of the Redeemer
- On Social Concern
- The Mission of the Redeemer
- The Hundredth Year: "New Things" One Hundred Years Later
- The Splendor of Truth
- The Gospel of Life
- On the Relationship Between Faith and Reason
Summary
There is a great amount of inspiration and ideas we can also obtain from
Scriptures and the documents of the Church. What is special about these
sources is that they open us to a rich tradition of theology and
spirituality - teachings on the Christian life from really substantial
sources and writings. Although you can get one of the suggestions given
in this article to title your blog, it would also be good to reread your
favorite Scripture passages, and to read a document of the Church you are
familiar with, so that when you are inspired to title your blog, it would
really be familiar to you, and can direct your blog to post something that
speaks from the heart.
