Using Mobile Phone Technology for Basic and Small Catholic Web Site Development
Introduction
In the course of developing this Catholic web site and its network of blogs,
I came to realize that the use of mobile phone technology, is coming more and
more to the forefront, and making itself a vital part of web development. A
concrete evidence of this evolution in mobile technology, is the inclusion of
mobile blogging by Blogger.com, in the first quarter of the year 2009. Because
of these developments, I searched and researched to keep updated,
and see how all these developments can be integrated with basic and small Catholic
web site development. This article is a product of that study, and will
inform just the basics on mobile phone technology.
Accessing email through your mobile phone
One very important element that will enhance basic Catholic web site
development, is accessing email messages. If we are away from our
PC desktop, we can check our email messages if our mobile phone is already
updated with the technology for that. Since
the year 2001, I chose Nokia as the brand for my mobile phone. And also,
when Gmail was offered to me in 2004 through my use of Blogger.com, I have made
Gmail an important email account for much of my computer work.
Not all Nokia phones support Gmail. Only Nokia phones that includes
Nokia N series, E series, and other Nokia phones that run Symbian 60 (S60),
third edition operating system, can support the use of Gmail. You can tell
if a Nokia phone can support Gmail if there is a Symbian symbol in one of
its phone keys. With Symbian (S60) mobile phone technology to help us
access to our email messages, we will have the opportunity
to quickly reply to these email messages and improve
our basic and small Catholic web site development.
Searching with mobile phone technology
Another very important element to help us in developing our Catholic
web site, and building our social networks, is the use of Google search
engine using mobile phone technology. While waiting in line, or
while on the road to a very important destination, we can stop for
a while, and search for information we need to know - especially
when we get an inspiration or an idea to write a Catholic article
or blog post. The advantage of this situation is that any inspiration
or idea need not be lost or wasted, but can be developed further by
searching at Google through mobile phone technology.
Accessing the news through our mobile phone
We can also access the news through mobile phone technology. The popular
news sites such as CNN, Reuters, and Time, can be accessed through the
use of a special URL specifically meant for mobile phones. These URLs
are as follows:
- CNN - http://cnnmobile.com
- Reuters - http://mobile.reuters.com
- Time - http://mobile.time.com/CNNI.jsp
As for Catholic news, I still need to search and research more what
Catholic news web sites and news blogs are providing news through
mobile phone technology. In the meantime, we can use the mobile news
sites given above, to check on the latest Technology news. This will
keep us up-to-date with what is happening in the technology industry.
Google Reader for mobile phones
With a Google account, we can subscribe to rss feeds through Google
Reader for mobile phones. Google Reader will render the rss feeds
we subscribe to, in the form of a list of headlines. If we click
on a headline, a short description of the rss feed item will be
given to us. As an example, you can subscribe to the rss feed of
this web site through your mobile phone. All you need to do is
to place the following URL in the browser of your mobile phone:
http://www.google.com/reader/m/view/feed/http://www.c-web-developer.net/rss.xml
Building your social network with mobile phone technology
Once you have updated your mobile phone to access emails and web sites, you
can also build your social network on the go. If you have social network
accounts with Twitter, FriendFeed and Facebook, then the following URLs
can help you access these sites in your mobile phone:
- Twitter - http://m.twitter.com
- FriendFeed - http://www.fftogo.com
- Facebook - http://m.facebook.com
Summary and conclusion
Mobile phone technology, and more specifically, Symbian (S60) mobile phone
technology in Nokia, can improve our Catholic web site development, widen our social
networks, and enhance the web 1.0 basic technology we all know by heart. What is
important is not to forget the full development of Catholic web
content. Symbian mobile phone technology can give us easy access to
email messages, search and social networking, so that we can create a Catholic web site
and blog network that can serve better all our readers.
