New Ways to Proclaim the Gospel in the New Digital Continent
Introduction
The first time we hear the phrase "new digital continent" is in Pope Benedict XVI's
43rd World Communications Day Message for May 24, 2009. His message makes the
Catholic aware of how the Web has evolved into a continent of people, who have
created new relationships through social networking web sites. In this new digital
continent, the Holy Father encourages all the Catholic faithful, particularly the
youth, evangelize this digital continent by proclaiming the message of the Gospel
and promoting a culture of respect, dialogue and friendship.
New Ways in Evangelizing this Digital Continent
Since the Web evolved into a more social, participative, and collaborative
environment, what used to be just static web pages now include social
networks that are growing at an exponential rate - populating this new
digital continent with new ways of relating online. This new technology
has created new opportunities in media evangelization and has made the
Internet an instrument of dialogue, peace and friendship. Catholics can now
share videos, bookmarks, and create their own network of contacts from
different parts of the world.
Evangelizing this Digital Continent through Catholic video files
One way of evangelizing this digital continent is to share Catholic video files
through video web sites, or by e-mailing friends with a link to a video file.
Another way is to embed the video file in a web page or blog post. You can
do this by visiting the Vatican channel at YouTube.com (www.youtube.com/vatican).
An example is the video file below of Pope Benedict XVI speaking how
Catholics can evangelize this evolution to a more socially-structured Web.
Evangelizing this Digital Continent through Catholic bookmarks
Another way of evangelizing this digital continent, is
by sharing favorite Catholic bookmarks with the general public on the Web.
At Delicious.com, you can subscribe to all the bookmarks that are tagged as
"catholic". You can select from among the bookmarks given and save them
as part of your archive of bookmarks. If you have made your Catholic bookmarks
available to the public and promote it as a link, then many can benefit from
the information these Catholic bookmarks can provide. With more bookmarks
of Catholic content available online, Catholics can evangelize this digital
continent more effectively.
Evangelizing this Digital Continent through social networks
In terms of networking through schools, Facebook.com is probably the most
appropriate social networking web site to join. Facebook.com can help you connect
with many of your Catholic classmates who have also registered in Facebook.com. It
is quite amazing how you can connect and link again with them despite the
long distances that separate you. Aside from your Catholic classmates, Facebook.com
can also link you with Catholics you have "met" online through Catholic
lists, forums, and groups. Linking with other Catholics online obtains a
stronger Catholic presence on the Web.
Many more ways of evangelizing this digital continent

Pope Benedict XVI speaks of. Given below is a list of new sites where
you might just find some Catholic content or files to share with others.
