Saving an Old PC, an XP OS, and Computer Peripherals
Save that old PC system
Do you have an old PC system that runs on Windows XP Home or Professional? You can still
save this old system by integrating it with your new PC desktop system. Since XP updates
will be phased out, you can still use this operating system for offline work. And you do
not need to buy extra external storage devices. You can just reorganize (and even reformat)
the hard disk of your old PC so that it can be used as a master storage system for all
your files. (News: Last October 22, 2010, Microsoft has stopped selling the XP
operating system in the market).
Creativity in physical arrangement
With a low-level bookshelf and a small table, you can arrange your computer work space
so that the old PC system (with its XP OS, keyboard, and mouse) is placed side by side
with your new PC desktop system. This arrangement can help the two PCs to share the same
monitor. All you have to do to switch from one PC system to the other, is to unplug
the monitor cable and the power cable, and then plug it to the other system. Since
backing up files for storage need not be a daily task but can be on a weekly basis,
you can efficiently switch PCs without the procedure being unwieldy.
Saving on printer ink and voltage regulators
Some printer cartridges can be refilled with a new supply of ink. To save on money,
you need not buy a new ink cartridge every time the cartridge runs out of ink. There
are small businesses that offer a service of refilling your ink cartridges for at
most two to three times. Also, to really save on computer ink, you can print only
what is necessary. Some information that we find online can just be saved as a .txt
file in NotePad. We can print only information that need thorough study and rereading.
As for your voltage regulator, if it is already fully plugged with many computer
peripherals, and has been used for quite some years already, don't wait until it bogs
down and be of no use anymore. You can get a new one and use the old one for computer
peripherals that are not as often used - such as the printer and the scanner.
Finding means and ways to save on money
In these times of global economic uncertainty, it would be wise to really save on
money by thinking creatively of many means and ways to save on computer systems
and peripherals. The global economic stress need not hinder any Catholic who wants
to be part of Pope Benedict XVI's call to evangelize the new digital continent.
